You are cordially invited to the annual HKLII DAY, organized by the Law Library, on Wednesday, 29 October 2014.

 

HKLII (Hong Kong Legal Information Institute, http://www.hklii.hk is the first comprehensive portal providing free access to public legal information in Hong Kong. It is a project of Law & Technology Centre, a centre jointly established by Department of Computer Science and Faculty of Law, and is based on data obtained from public authorities and other sources in Hong Kong. Databases in HKLII now comprise Judgments from most Hong Kong Courts and Tribunals; Practice Directions; Current Ordinances and Regulations; selected publications of Hong Kong Law Reform Commission; selected domain name arbitration decisions from the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre; Administrative Appeals Board case notes and complaint case notes from the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data.

(A) Introduction to HKLII & CLIC

1-2 pm, Computer Room, Lui Che Woo Law Library, 1/F Cheng Yu Tung Tower, presented by Dr Kevin Pun, Associate Professor, Dept of Computer Science & Dept of Law, HKU; Co-Director of HKLII. Did it ever occur to you that improving your legal research skills could save you hours of research time in the future?  Take action now by signing up in a Lexis/Westalw training this coming October 2 and October 9.  In the training sessions, you will be able to meet the specialist trainers from Lexis and Westlaw and will be introduced to the essential legal research skills needed to search effectively in these resources, e.g.

 

  • locate a case by citation;
  • search for cases by topics/issues
  • select a database;
  • construct a terms and connectors search;
  • print and download the documents.

Forthcoming library trainings: Westlaw Day, Lexis Day & HKLII Day

Specialist trainers from both LexisNexis and Westlaw will offer training sessions on October 19-20 and 29-30 respectively at the Lui Che Woo Law Library.  Souvenirs and training materials will be distributed to participants.  Registration is not required but seats with PCs are limited, first come first served. 

  • 3 November 2009 HKLII Day (Date changed!)

The training event will be held on 3 November 2009 with focus on two of Hong Kong’s leading free legal portals, HKLII (Hong Kong Legal Information Institute) and CLIC (Community Legal Information Centre).  Registration is required.  Introductory session and small-group workshops will be organized.
