Research in Language is published by Versita.  The aim of this international journal is to promote ideas in the field of linguistics and language studies. These have always been very broad and diverse fields, which are still broadening now. As other scholarly disciplines, language studies undergo two, seemingly counteracting, processes.

The first is the process of diversification of the field into narrower and narrower domains of specialisation, while the other, resulting from interdisciplinarity, is the process of convergence. It is in fact the latter of the two, aiming to bridge gaps between modular compartments of language studies and to show the multidimensional nature of language, which will be the focus of the journal.

Language in its entirety, not only with its traditional division into phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics but its overlaps, borderline areas, relations with vision and other systems, the psychological and social shaping of linguistic convention and creativity, questions of language and the mind, that will find their place in this journal.

Published by the University of Alberta, Constellations is a student-run, student-written, and student-reviewed undergraduate journal, using a traditional peer-review system as one would find in any professional, academic journal. 

Constellations strives to provide a forum for young historians and classicists to have the experience of writing for an academic journal. Social Network Analysis and Mining (SNAM) is intended to be a multidisciplinary journal to serve both academia and industry as a main venue for a wide range of researchers and readers from computer science, social sciences, mathematical sciences, medical and biological sciences. The main areas covered by SNAM include: (1) data mining advances on the discovery and analysis of communities, personalization for solitary activities (like search) and social activities (like discovery of potential friends), the analysis of user behavior in open forums (like conventional sites, blogs and forums) and in commercial platforms (like e-auctions), and the associated security and privacy-preservation challenges; (2) social network modeling, construction of scalable, customizable social network infrastructure, identification and discovery of dynamics, growth, and evolution patterns using machine learning approaches or multi-agent based simulation.

Title: Etiology of Periodontitis and Peri-implantitis: Infectious Diseases?

Abstract: Bacteria have been recognized to play a central role in the development of periodontitis. So far, however, there is no definitive evidence that periodontitis is an “infectious disease” in the classical sense. The species associated with periodontits are not exogenous pathogens but part of the normal oral microbiota and whether there exists transmission from tooth to tooth is still controversial. Similar to periodontal diseases, studies have also associated the presence of bacterial colonization at titanium dental implants to peri-implantitis. Still, whether transmission from tooth to implant or from implant to implant exists is not clear.

In the preliminary study, we compared the composition of microbiota from deep and shallow periodontal pockets within the same subjects, who have never performed any form of oral hygiene interventions since their birth using culture-independent sequencing method. The microbiota in deep sites was significantly more diverse and more complex than in shallow sites (p<0.05), implying that the transmission from teeth to teeth does not exist.

And a cross-sectional study will be done to compare microbiota from healthy teeth, periodontally involved teeth, healthy implants and peri-implantitis affected implants within the same subject by using molecular method to test whether there exists transmission of microbiota from tooth to implant or from implant to implant.
