The results reflect that a good collection of open access e-books is available on Central Asia, and some titles date back to the nineteenth century. The collection includes both “made digital” and “born digital” items. The results further depict that most of these e-books were published in developed countries like the USA and the UK. These books mostly deal with political science (especially international relations), sociology and economics, and are mostly published by national and international organisations like the US Strategic Research Institute (SRI), Human Rights Watch (HRW), the World Bank (WB), and the World Health Organization (WHO).   [Source:  Article by Fayaz Ahmad Loan, (2011) in Collection Building, Vol. 30 Iss: 3, pp.126 - 130]

Title: Dental anomalies in the primary dentition

Abstract: The objectives of this study were to determine the prevalence of dental anomalies in the primary dentition of a southern Chinese child population, and to investigate the relationship between the presence of a talon cusp, missing or supernumerary tooth in the primary dentition and the number of the permanent successor teeth. A total of 1333 children, aged from 2 years 11 months to 5 years 5 months were included in the prevalence study. The commonest dental anomaly found was double tooth, followed by missing tooth. Both talon cusp and a supernumerary tooth occurred rarely. Children with talon cusp on primary maxillary lateral incisors, missing mandibular incisors and supernumerary

Title: A private clinic - based dental service programme for kindergarten children in Hong Kong

Abstract: The aim of this study was to find out the effects of providing a private practice based dental service programme to the kindergarten children in Hong Kong. In the clinical trial, a total of 245 children attending Grade 1 in nine kindergartens participated. Baseline information of the children was collected and they were randomly allocated into the test or control group. Children in the test group were offered free dental services at regular intervals based on their caries risk in 3 private dental clinics. Evaluation took place after 24 months through conducting clinical examinations and a parental questionnaire. It was found that the service was effective in preventing new dental caries and in reducing the amount of untreated caries. However, it had little effective in improving the oral health related behaviours and oral hygiene status of the children. Consumer satisfaction by the parents and children was very high.
